Robotic prostatectomy
Robotic prostatectomy
We offer advanced, minimally invasive surgery to treat prostate cancer.
The prostate is a reproductive organ in men
Found only in men, the prostate is a gland located below the bladder. It wraps around the urethra (the small tube that carries urine from the bladder). Prostate cancer is when cancer begins in the prostate. It’s the most common cancer impacting men. When caught early through PSA screening, prostate exam and biopsy, it is often curable.
What is robotic prostatectomy?
Robotic prostatectomy is a minimally invasive surgery that is used to treat prostate cancer. During this procedure, the prostate is removed. In addition, the seminal vesicles, nearby tissues, and occasionally the pelvic lymph nodes may also be removed.
During a robotic prostatectomy, the surgeon will make several tiny cuts in order to remove the prostate using a tool called a laparoscope. This tool is a long, thin tube with a tiny camera and thin surgical tools attached to it. Your surgeon can control these tools using robotic technology.
This type of surgery can offer several benefits compared to standard open surgery, including:
- Faster recovery
- Less bleeding
- Less pain
- Shorter hospital stay
