Midurethral sling
Midurethral sling
This surgical procedure can be used to help women experiencing stress incontinence.
What is stress incontinence?
Stress incontinence is the loss of bladder control during physical activity or movement. Leaks can be small or severe, and can be caused by activities like coughing, sneezing, or jumping. Stress incontinence is more common in women and is often associated with factors such as pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, and aging.
What is a midurethral sling?
A midurethral sling procedure is designed to prevent urethral dropping during the type of movement that can cause stress incontinence. It is a minimally invasive procedure that involves placing mesh beneath the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder). There are three primary types of midurethral synthetic procedures: retropubic (TVT), transobturator (TOT) and single incision.
