Children of hospital staff create "Get Well" cards for patients

MARRERO, LA -- In addition to combatting coronavirus, the staff at West Jefferson Medical Center found themselves in a unique situation when school classes were canceled throughout Jefferson and Orleans parishes effective Monday, March 16. 

Without missing a beat, the staff of the West Jefferson Fitness Center, whose doors were all closed following a statewide mandate to temporarily close all gyms and fitness studios, opened their space as a Kids' Activity Center for the children of the hospitals' staff. 

Anette Cheramie, Director of West Jefferson Fitness Center, is helping run the kids' activity program at their Marrero location, located on the hospital's main campus. 

"We are caring for our team members' children so they can care for their patients," said Cheramie. 

Part of the kids' programming included creating "get well" cards for patients staying at West Jefferson. 

"I'm hoping to brighten a patient's day with a get-well card from the kids," said Cheramie. "Their kind spirit and calmness through this situation are really inspiring."
