Community Health Needs Assessment
Addressing Health Needs in our Community
For more than nearly 60 years, West Jefferson Medical Center (WJMC) in Marrero, Louisiana has cared for the needs of its community with pride and distinction. Many of its programs have received regional and national recognition. Across the past six decades, analysis of needs of the community have been at the forefront of strategic planning and program development. WJMC is committed to continuing to work collaboratively with its partners to assess and address health needs within its community.
Today, tax-exempt hospitals such as WJMC are required to conduct formal Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA) and Implementation Plans to improve the health and well-being of residents served in their communities. West Jefferson’s latest CHNA was completed in October 2018. The CHNA was conducted by Tripp Umbach for the Metropolitan Hospital Association of New Orleans on behalf of several area hospitals including WJMC and LCMC Health partners and other local non-profits.
Regionally, three major community needs areas were identified:
- Behavioral Health
- Access to Care
- Health Education
Implementation Strategies will speak to these important findings, with activities and collaborations identified to address the needs as well as monitor and report on the impact of said initiatives.
Further, Tripp Umbach worked with the participating organizations to update an Inventory of Community Resources to be published to further aid members of the community in identifying important services that may benefit residents in need.
