Sudden Impact
Saving lives, one teen driver at a time
For over 25 years, Sudden Impact, a University Medical Center New Orleans program, has empowered young drivers to make safe choices on the road. This statewide teen injury prevention initiative, implemented by trauma centers, hospitals, and the Louisiana State Police, delivers an unforgettable experience that goes beyond lectures and data.
Through impactful interactions with trauma personnel, crash victims, and organ procurement representatives, students visit intensive care units and emergency departments, witnessing the real-world consequences of poor driving decisions. These powerful encounters empower them to learn and adopt productive countermeasures, ultimately reducing motor vehicle crash injuries and fatalities.
A four-time national award winner, Sudden Impact is proudly supported by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
