Charlotte Parent Joins University Medical Center as Vice President of Business Development

University Medical Center New Orleans is pleased to announce that Charlotte Parent, RN, MHCM, will join University Medical Center as Vice President of Business Development effective February 4, 2019.

Ms. Parent comes to University Medical Center with more than 29 years of experience in health care, most recently serving as Assistant Vice President of Community Affairs and Network Development at LCMC Health. From 2014-2016, she served as Director of the New Orleans Health Department; for several months during that time, she led New Orleans East Hospital as interim CEO.

In her new role at University Medical Center, Ms. Parent will work with physicians and hospital leadership to establish organizational objectives and develop University Medical Center’s strategic business plan. She will also be responsible for identifying business opportunities that foster University Medical Center’s growth and financial stability and, most importantly, meet the needs of the community.

While in her role as New Orleans Health Director, Ms. Parent was instrumental in the development and implementation of the city’s smoking ban and initiatives related to homelessness, domestic violence, and sexual assault. She also served on the Board of the Hospital Service District for New Orleans East Hospital and was part of the team that re-built the facility, bringing healthcare back to New Orleans East

Early in her career, Ms. Parent was the director of Maternal and Child Services at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, where she developed and oversaw services for expectant mothers and their families.

She is a board member of the Metropolitan Human Service District, the US Health Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Infant Mortality and the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action National Strategic Advisory Committee.

Additionally, she has received recognition and awards including the 2012 City Business Healthcare Heroes Award, 2014 United Healthcare Community Plan Phenomenal Woman Humanitarian Award, 2014 Kresge Foundation Emerging Leader in Public Health, 2016 Institute for Women and Ethnic Studies Youth Champion, and in 2018 the 100 Black Men Health and Wellness Champion.

A native New Orleanian, Ms. Parent received her Diploma of Nursing at the Charity Hospital School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Loyola University, and a Masters in Health Care Management from the University of New Orleans.
