University Medical Center New Orleans to Host Free Skin Cancer Screening & Prevention Event

(NEW ORLEANS) – Skin cancer affects one in five Americans, but it has a better than 99% cure rate if detected and treated early. After a summer spent in the sun, University Medical Center (University Medical Center) New Orleans invites the community to its Free Skin Cancer Screening & Prevention Event on Wednesday, August 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the University Medical Center New Orleans Cancer Center.

“Skin cancer is very treatable if caught early; however, not everyone has early detection and prevention on the top of their minds and may not feel like they have the time or money to get a skin cancer screening,” said David Brandt, Director of Cancer Services at University Medical Center New Orleans. “This screening and prevention event will be an easy way for those concerned about their skin to get a quick, free screening and get tips on how to prevent skin cancer.”

Dermatologists from LSU Health New Orleans and Tulane School of Medicine, led by Drs. Brian Lee and Erin Boh, respectively, will be onsite to perform the skin cancer screenings. Screenings will only be performed to determine the possibility of skin cancer. Medical consultation will not be provided for other skin conditions such as rashes, abrasions, etc.

The Cancer Center is located on the first floor of Tower 1 at University Medical Center New Orleans. Free parking is available for screening participants in the Cancer Center parking lot, LOT B, located on S. Galvez Street near the corner of Canal Street.

Walk-ins are welcome to the event; however, pre-registration is encouraged.
