Support Services
Providing cancer support in New Orleans
At Touro, supportive care is an essential part of our cancer program. We provide the mental, emotional, spiritual, and social support you need through your cancer journey, from diagnosis through treatment and into survivorship. Our approach focuses on the whole person and not just the disease. Selecting the services you need can strengthen your mind and body while empowering you to fight cancer and recover from your treatment. We’re proud to offer these cancer support services to patients and their families at no cost. Coping with your cancer diagnosis can be challenging. Coping strategies you may use in other walks of life might not be sufficient while maintaining your psychological and emotional well-being along your cancer journey. There’s no one way to cope with cancer because every patient and case is unique. It’s important to recognize your needs, seek out assistance, and develop your own coping strategy.

Supportive counseling for patients & loved ones
We offer supportive counseling or “talk therapy” to all patients and their families who may be experiencing a difficult time coping with the psychological and emotional impact of cancer and its treatment. This psychotherapy is free and offered to individuals, couples, and families. - Adjusting to your cancer treatment
- Learning how to cope with your cancer
- Understanding your psychosocial distress
- Overcoming your depression and anxiety
- Recognizing your thoughts and emotions
- Expressing your feelings
- Communicating with your family and friends
- Questioning your spiritual faith
- Coping with your physical changes
- Adjusting to life following your cancer treatment
Offering physical & spiritual support
Cancer and its treatment will change your body and can create or change your spiritual needs. Bodily changes may include how your body looks, feels, and performs, and all of those can impact your body image. While some physical changes from cancer treatments are temporary, others are permanent. Some people might not be affected much by physical changes, while others will have a difficult time accepting even minor changes. Touro is committed to helping you cope with any physical effects of cancer treatment. We’re here to provide you with the information, resources, and support you need. Spirituality is very important for the quality of life of some people with cancer. Spiritual coping is used by many to help them cope with their disease. It can provide a great source of strength, hope, connection, and meaning.
- Reducing stress and anxiety
- Strengthening the will to live
