Dietary habits can change with age. Some people lose their sense of taste or feel less hungry. No matter your age, choosing healthy foods and beverages is always a smart thing to do. Here’s what you can do to maintain a healthy diet:
- Make half your grains whole grains, including whole-wheat bread and pasta.
- Eat plenty of fruits and veggies. Brighten your plate with vegetables that are red, orange, and dark green, and try a variety of fruits.
- Choose lean proteins, such as poultry without skin, seafood, beans, eggs, and nuts.
- Select low-fat or fat-free dairy products.
- Limit saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt, and added sugar in your diet.
- Get enough fluids.
