Doula Services
A doula is a nonmedical professional trained in childbirth who provides emotional, physical and educational support to a mother. Their purpose is to help a mother have a safe, memorable and empowering birth experience.
The term doula is most commonly refers to a birth or labor support companion, but there are also doulas specializing in postpartum care or bereavement care.
Most doula-client relationships are established a few months before the baby is due. A doula may help a mother/family to create a birth plan that can then be shared with the hospital and other medical professionals who will participate in the birth process.
Doula Services at Lakeview Hospital
Lakeview Hospital can connect you to a doula who has been credentialed at our hospital. All doulas are welcomed at Lakeview Hospital, and crendentialing is no longer required.
If you have a relationship with a doula that is not on our list of hospital credentialed professionals, please direct them to our Human Resources Department to begin the process. We recommend that a doula apply for credentials at least 90 days prior to the scheduled birth date in order to allow for sufficient time to complete the process. Credentialed doulas will not count toward the maximum number of guests that are allowed in the room during delivery.
