Abnormal Heart Rhythms
Sometimes different isn’t what you want
While we celebrate you for marching to the beat of your own drum, we don’t think your heart should do the same.
There are serious health risks associated with cardiac arrhythmias, or irregular heartbeats, that can lead to life-threatening conditions, including heart failure and stroke. If you have an irregular heartbeat, you’re not alone. Atrial fibrillation, one type of arrhythmia classified as an abnormal heart rhythm in the upper chambers of the heart, currently affects approximately 2.2 million Americans.
Types of arrhythmias
There are four conditions that doctors classify as arrhythmias, including:
- Atrial fibrillation, or AFib (abnormal heartbeats such as extra beats or skipped beats).
- Bradycardia (heart beats too slow).
- Tachycardia (heart beats too fast).
- Other heartbeats coming from abnormal areas of the heart.
Our board-certified doctors at the Arrhythmia Institute at Lakeview Hospital diagnose and manage heart rhythm disturbances with groundbreaking, biplane technology in our electrophysiology laboratory (EP Lab). The superior detail of the GE Innova 3131 X-ray system gives doctors the highest level of image quality while emitting the lowest radiation — making it a safer, more reliable option for you.
At the Arrhythmia Institute, we can:
- Identify the source of abnormal beats by mapping the heart.
- Predict the risk of future arrhythmia events.
- Restore normal heart rhythms through catheter-based ablation.
- Implant permanent rhythm devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators.
- Use resynchronization therapy to improve the health of patients with heart failure.
