Lakeview Regional announces newest Daisy Award winner - Lauren Rachal

Lakeview Hospital , a campus of Tulane Medical Center, presented Labor & Delivery Nurse Lauren Rachal, BSN, RN with the DAISY Award for the first quarter of 2022. The DAISY Award is a nationwide program that honors and celebrates the super-human work nurses do for patients and families every day. Lauren has been a nurse at Lakeview Regional since January, 2017. She was nominated by two families for her compassion and kindness.

In nominating Lauren, the husband of a patient wrote, “Lauren kept my wife’s comfort and baby’s safety as her #1 priority. She made sure to inform us on everything and had the best personality. It is very apparent that she is skilled and passionate about her job. I hope her kindness is returned ten-fold.” A second nomination stated, “Lauren stayed late and helped my wife [during] labor. She was off at 6:00pm but she stayed until 10:00pm. She went above and beyond our [expectations.] She is the best and deserves to be recognized.”

Patients, visitors, nurses, physicians, and employees are invited to nominate a Lakeview Regional nurse for the DAISY Award. The nominee should consistently model empathy and demonstrate a caring attitude in all situations; demonstrate extraordinary clinical skills in the delivery of compassionate patient care; have a positive attitude and demonstrate professionalism in the work environment; exemplify the mission, vision, and values of Lakeview Regional; and establish a special connection with the patients and families.

The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say "thank you" to nurses in a very public way.
