The Center for Diabetes Education approaches the treatment of each person with diabetes through aggressive and comprehensive medical management. It provides education on self-care skills, self-management, and counseling on medical nutrition therapy for adult and pediatric patients and their families. Individual patients are assessed and given instruction according to the American Diabetes Association's Standards for Recognized Quality Self-Management Education programs.
Inpatients and outpatients are seen by appointment with a physician referral. Group classes as well as individual counseling are offered at the Tulane Center for Diabetes. The staff is also available to patients via telephonic and electronic communication. In addition, the staff gives lectures upon request to various community and local organizations.
