Lakeside Hospital for Women and Children has been recognized for its dedication to patient safety by being awarded an “A” grade – the highest available – in The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2016 Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from preventable medical errors, injuries and infections within the hospital.
“Our ‘A’ rating demonstrates our team’s continued success in providing world-class patient care,” said Dr. William Lunn, president and CEO of Tulane Health System. “We are committed to applying proven best practices to deliver the highest quality care our patients and families deserve.”
The Hospital Safety Score is considered one of the gold standard ratings for patient safety. It is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading patient safety experts and administered by The Leapfrog Group, a national, non-profit hospital safety watchdog.
“Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge for any hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We recognize and appreciate ‘A’ hospitals’ vigilance and continued dedication to keeping their patients safe.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
Lakeside Hospital for Women and Children was one of 844 hospitals to receive an “A” ranking among the safest hospitals in the United States.

Tulane Lakeside is a nationally recognized Baby Friendly facility for offering an optimal level of care for infant feeding and mother/baby bonding. The facility is also an accredited Louisiana Guided Infant Feeding Technique (G.I.F.T.) hospital, and the home to Safe Kids Louisiana, a non-profit organization that provides childhood safety and wellness information through community events.
