About Dr. Smart
Dr. Smart is a tenured Professor at The LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans and serves as the Chief of Cardiology at LSU, and the Heart and Vascular Service Line Director at UMCNO. A graduate of LSU School of Medicine, Ochsner Foundation for residency and Baylor College of Medicine for cardiology training, Dr. Smart has been in clinical practice for 30 years. He is one of the leading cardiologist in the US specializing in heart failure and cardiac transplantation.. A frequent lecturer both nationally and internationally, Dr Smart is active in teaching and in clinical research. He holds the Kenneth Ardoin/Pfizer Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Research through LSU. Dr Smart has published over 130 peer reviewed articles and serves on the editorial board of many journals. Listed by Castle Connolly as one of Americas Top Doctors for 17 consecutive years, Dr Smart is most proud of his membership in The Association of University Cardiologists. A select group of academic physicians limited to 130 cardiologists across the United States. Dr. Smart's clinical interest is in heart failure and cardiomyopathy and the genetics associated with these conditions.
My Little Something Extra: Having worked as an auto mechanic and electrician to support himself during college and medical school, he now rebuilds old cars from the 1960s and 1970s as a hobby, Additionally he and his wife enjoy welding and and creating metal art projects.
