About Dr. Velander, II
Dr. Velander began his scholastic career at Williams College in Massachusetts graduating magna cum laude with a degree in English and Chemistry. He then traveled to Oxford, UK to further his education at Exter College. Returning to the United States, Dr. Velander then began his medical education at the University of Michigan focusing on the specialty of neurology. Dr. Velander has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout his college and medical career, including being named a National Merit Scholar, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most prestigious honor society, and was selected Chief Resident of the Dept. of Neurology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. While teaching at LSU Health Sciences Center, Dr. Velander received the Faculty Teaching Award. As a neurointensivist, Dr. Velander organized West Jefferson Medical Center’s neurocritical care unit, advancing care patients receive while in ICU.
