The Board of Directors of East Jefferson General Hospital (EJGH) have voted to recommend Gerald Parton as the healthcare institution’s President and Chief Executive Officer. This endorsement will go to the Jefferson Parish Council for approval later this month.
Mr. Parton is the fourth CEO in the community hospital’s 46-year history. He replaces long-time CEO Dr. Mark Peters, who retired in March of this year after serving in the role for 15 years. Raymond DeCorte M.D., the organization’s Chief Medical Officer, and a general surgeon served as interim CEO during the search process.
Parton has an extensive healthcare management career, coming to EJGH from Quorum Health Resources, based in Nashville, TN, where he served as regional vice president. He worked in the metropolitan New Orleans region with Tenet Healthcare, serving as Chief Executive Officer at Meadowcrest Hospital and Doctors Hospital of Jefferson during his tenure with the national healthcare organization. Earlier in his career, Parton also served as CEO with several Healthcare Corporation of America (LCMC Health) facilities in the southeast.
“Gerald brings strong healthcare management experience; he’s an expert in helping independent hospitals like East Jefferson remain vital in these challenging times. EJGH remains so important to our region, giving patients a quality choice for their care,” notes Henry Shane, Chairman of the EJGH Board of Directors. “The healthcare industry has changed dramatically since East Jefferson opened its doors in 1971, and we are proud to have Gerald lead our team members, medical staff, and volunteers, and continue the legacy of clinical excellence and customer service East Jefferson General Hospital is known for.”
Mr. Parton holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama.
