Then Saul’s Light Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping meet the needs of New Orleans families and their babies in the NICU as they journey home, has donated $5,000 in its latest ongoing efforts to support East Jefferson General Hospital.
The gift was the most recent installment from Saul’s Light, which has pledged continuing support to The Foundation at EJGH.
“The NICU journey can be incredibly isolating,” said Aaron Novod, who founded Saul’s Light in 2015 along with his wife Kimberly. “We want families to know that they are not alone. We were only able to make it through our experience because of the love and support that we received from those around us. We hope that the fund can offer similar support to other families and that it will allow moms and dads to spend as many moments as possible with their babies.”
The Novod’s began Saul’s Light in memory of their son, Saul, who passed away just 20 days after his birth. In his honor, the Novod’s dedicated their time to help meet the needs of families who must endure the experience of having a baby in the NICU.
All money donated to EJGH by Saul’s Light is spent directly on providing financial assistance for patients and families in the NICU through gift cards for food and groceries, transportation, and baby feeding supplies.
“We are so grateful to Saul’s Light for providing this help to our families,” said Pam Luwe, EJGH NICU Registered Nurse. “The NICU is a scary and heart-wrenching detour from any parent’s planned birth experience. What an appropriate name, ‘Saul’s Light,’ is. It provides a ray of sunshine to a cloudy beginning for our NICU parents.”
