East Jefferson General Hospital has been named one of just 55 hospitals from across the United States with the lowest 30-day heart attack readmission rates according to data collected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
“This is a tremendous achievement for us,” said Dr. Gary Menszer, East Jefferson General Hospital Cardiologist. “We strive to not only make our patients better but to ensure that they stay healthy once they leave our doors. To be named one of the best in the country in heart attack readmission rates lets us know we’re headed in the right direction.”
CMS, the federal government’s healthcare administration agency, collected readmission rates in heart attack patients over a two-year period at healthcare institutions across the United States.
On average, the national readmission rate is at 17 percent. East Jefferson General Hospital holds a rate of 14.7 percent, the 36th best mark in the country.
“It’s always good to know where we stand against other hospitals,” added Menszer. “It’s also not something we want to be comfortable with. We want to keep striving and pushing that number to better our patients and the care we provide them with.”
EJGH is the only hospital in the state of Louisiana to be named on the list.
