Members of the EJGH Medical Staff and Emergency Medical Services Department were proud to provide tours last week to hospital employees and members of the community through the hospital’s new emergency medical shelter tent. As part of the EJGH emergency response plans, mobile tent units are available and can be assembled at any disaster location so that medical care may be provided.
“This shelter is absolutely critical in our ability to provide medical care to the community when a disaster strikes,” says Mike Guillot, EJGH Director of Emergency Medical Services. “This is a tremendous asset to the hospital and the community to have this available. We can now arrive at a scene, assemble the shelter in less than two hours, and can immediately begin giving lifesaving care in a covered, wind-resistant facility.”
Each tent is 19 x 35 in size and is a military-grade shelter system that has air conditioning and heating built-in. It can be used to administer direct medical care in the field and can also accommodate patients as a staging area. The tent is part of a region-wide approach throughout our area to jointly provide care when needed and is designed to stand alone as EJGH responds to an emergency.
