EJGH Congratulates Janice Kishner and Bonnie McCarty

2010 Nightingale Award Winners

At the Ninth Annual, Louisiana Awards Gala for Nursing and Healthcare, Janice Kishner and Bonnie McCarty were recognized by their peers as Nightingale Award winners. Kishner earned the Nursing Administrator of the Year Award while McCarty was named the Clinical Practice Nurse of the Year. The Nightingale Awards recognize excellence in nursing, quality of service and celebrates those individuals who make special contributions to overall healthcare.

They are both dedicated, compassionate, and above all, they each have a passion for providing the highest quality of care to our community. Our physicians, administration, and staff are proud of their accomplishments, and we congratulate and celebrate their Nightingale Awards along with them.”

Janice Kishner, RN, MSN, MBA, FACHE, serves East Jefferson General Hospital as Chief Nurse Executive and has been with the hospital for 26 years. She has been recognized for being a visionary, role model, and mentor who has spearheaded the organization’s efforts to become Louisiana’s first Nurse Magnet Hospital. In addition, she introduced a new model of Shared Governance that has been studied by other hospitals nationally and has been a strong advocate for continuing nursing education.

“This award is not about me,” says Kishner. “This is about the amazing team at EJGH who provides the best possible care for our patients. I am humbled and honored that our staff nominated me. Leading this team is my life’s reward!”

Bonnie McCarty, RN CCRN, has been with East Jefferson General Hospital since 1983, beginning her career in the Intensive Care Unit. Currently, McCarty is currently an Administrative Representative and consistently demonstrates excellence and leadership. In her role, she supports all areas throughout the hospital and has also been both a Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support instructor for many years.

“It was a real thrill to be rewarded for what I love to do,” says McCarty. “The awards are wonderful indicators of the quality of care that is delivered throughout our region.”
