LCMC Health Hospitals Achieve Landmark Validations from HIMSS Analytics

University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital both reach Stage 7 on Medical Record Adoption Model

NEW ORLEANS – LCMC Health is pleased to announce that two of its hospitals – University Medical Center New Orleans and Children’s Hospital New Orleans – have achieved Stage 7 on the HIMSS Analytics Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). This is the highest validation from HIMSS Analytics, a leading global healthcare IT consulting organization.

The Stage 7 validation level is tribute to demonstrating safe, high quality patient care, through combined efforts between IT and operational leaders in the inpatient med surg, critical care, and NICU departments as well as the ED, Medical Imaging, Laboratory and Blood Bank, Pharmacy, and HIM/Medical Records. The benefits of a near paperless environment and utilizing a comprehensive EMR include improved clinical quality, patient safety, and operational efficiencies, specifically the inefficiency of paper-based processes, immediate access to patient data, a reduction in medical errors and unnecessary tests, and the empowerment of patients by making their health information more accessible.

HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in HIMSS Analytics® LOGIC™. There are eight stages (0-7) that measure a hospital’s implementation and utilization of information technology applications. The final stage, Stage 7, represents an advanced patient record environment. The validation process to confirm a hospital has reached Stage 7 includes a site visit by an executive from HIMSS Analytics and former or current chief information officers to ensure an unbiased evaluation of the Stage 7 environments.
