As someone who takes care of women with high-risk pregnancies, I know many of you have questions about the COVID-19 vaccine.
Is the COVID-19 vaccine safe in pregnancy?
The first question my patients always ask me is "is the COVID vaccine safe in pregnancy?" The answer is yes. Both the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations do not contain a live virus. Therefore it will not be harmful to you. Of course, you might have some side effects from any kind of vaccination. You might feel flu-like symptoms. You might have a fever. If you have a fever, you need to take Tylenol and no more than two grams in 24 hours to avoid any side effects of Tylenol.
Does the COVID-19 vaccine affect fertility?
Another question my patients ask me is, "will the COVID-19 vaccine affect my fertility?" My answer is no. COVID-19 vaccine does not affect fertility. So therefore you do not have to delay getting pregnant if you have been vaccinated.
Will the COVID-19 vaccine affect or harm food to my baby?
If you want to get pregnant, and once you have the COVID-19 vaccine, some patients will ask me "will the COVID vaccine affect or harm food to your baby?" The answer is no. In fact, the COVID vaccination helps you to protect your baby from a COVID-19 infection by the passive transmission of your antibodies against the COVID virus through the placenta. As long as you have the second dose 90 days before delivery so the antibodies can be passed on to help protect your baby.
