Townsend Included in Becker’s 2019 Female Health IT Leaders to Know
New Orleans, LA – LCMC Health System Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) Tanya Townsend has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review, a national healthcare publication, as one of 2019’s Women in Health IT to Know. This is the second year in a row that Tanya was recognized, as she was named to the 2018 Class of Women in IT to Know.
In naming Tanya to this list of female leaders in IT, Becker notes the crucial role technology plays in hospitals and health systems across the nation. Becker’s emphasized the use of technology during medical procedures, in documenting care to ensure appropriate and efficient healthcare delivery, and its increasing role in the patient financial experience.
When LCMC Health was formed in 2009, the system’s vision was to create efficiencies across its five hospitals and improve care for the community by standardizing systems where possible and reducing complexity. To bring this vision to life, LCMC Health has undergone a major transition entailing the consolidation of five hospitals and ambulatory clinics to one electronic medical record, Epic.
In her capacity with LCMC Health, Tanya is charged with leading the consolidation, integration, and enhancement of information technology environments into a shared services model across the five-hospital system, strategically and effectively leading the delivery of high-quality healthcare services through technology.
Tanya brings an array of healthcare technology and administrative experience to her role at LCMC Health. Before joining LCMC Health in November 2014, she was Vice President and CIO of Greater Baltimore Medical Center. She has also served as CIO of Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System's eastern Wisconsin division, where she oversaw IT, Biomed and clinical engineering, and health information management for St. Mary's, St. Vincent, and St. Nicholas hospitals, including provider practice Prevea Health.
